Yes I know… we’ve fallen terribly behind on updating this blog! The intention was to blog all the weddings we photographed. I only ended up getting about 2 weddings blogged (out of about 30) from 2008! Those two weddings took me a long time to blog… about 3 hours each, sometimes more! So, I just need to not be such a perfectionist and find a happy medium. So until I find that balance, I’ll try to post other things too.
Anyway, onto the point of this post… We love clients that blog! Joy and Jay’s wedding in 2007 was so incredible, and we’ve been fortunate to keep up with them because we photographed Jay’s sisters wedding in NY in 2008, and also they come to visit Hood River every so often too. :)
Joy and Jay just revived their blog and wrote a super awesome post about their wedding, and included lots of great photos by some great photographers ;) Check it out here!

For most all wedding photographers in America, this is by far the busiest time of the year. Bethany and I have shot 7 weddings in the past month and have another this weekend in Michigan and then another the next weekend in San Francisco. So, it’s been a bit crazy to say the least! Emails need responding, calls need returning, and we’re up to our eyeballs with photos to edit and albums to design!
We’re not complaining in the least bit because we absolutely LOVE our career as photographers but at times you get a little weighed down and tired. But then…. then…. I arrive at the office this morning @ 10 (after editing photos till 4:30AM last night) and I click on the email from Megan & Kelly, who’s wedding we had the honor of photographing on Saturday. Their words from the email after viewing their slideshow:
OH MY GOSH!!!!!!!!! we have just been oohing and aahing and laughing all morning!! those pictures are all just phenomenal – not that i am at all surprised, just thrilled above and beyond any possible expectation. you both are just insanely talented, creative, present, magical! kelly and i can’t believe we get to enjoy these the rest of our lives - can’t believe there are more where that came from!!

All I can say is wow, that feels sooo sooo amazing to provide our clients with a product they are beyond in love with. That is what gives us so much satisfaction and it really makes us realize how fortunate and blessed we are to provide couples and families with great photos they’ll forever cherish. Wow, we’ve gotten soo behind on blogging the weddings we shoot… we’ve been shooting too much and not blogging!
We always get the slideshow up within a day or two of the wedding, and then get the rest of the photos up within 2-4 weeks, so even though all that stuff is already up, we still like to blog about them too.
So here are some of our favorites from Jake and Ashley’s wedding at the Mt. Hood Bed & Breakfast. Their wedding day had some crazy weather which you’ll see in the photos! The day started off being totally clear, hot, and muggy, and then it quickly clouded over and rain was threatening the ceremony. Luckily, the ceremony went off without a drop of rain (beautiful clouds for our photos) but literally 15 minutes after the ceremony, it started DUMPING rain like crazy. The reception was all set up to be outside, and had to be quickly moved inside. All the guests helped out and everyone did it with a huge smile on their face and had lots of fun. Including Jake and Ashley!Luckily the Mt. Hood Bed & Breakfast has an inside backup location for when the rain comes like that. The reception was quickly moved inside and looked just as great inside as it did outside.

A couple months ago when we were updating our website, I took a screenshot of when all the photos were open and I used Apple’s Exposé to reveal them all at once, with just a move of the mouse. Apple is so genius!
I’m finally putting this on our blog so I can delete it off the desktop already!

We don’t use any HDR at all actually… we just always try to shoot in great light, and also Lightroom has some adjustments that make the RAW conversions look semi-HDR.

Wow, we are sooo blessed to love our work and have the greatest clients EVER!
We shot Trista and Greg’s wedding a few days ago (slideshow is here!) and they just stopped by our office and gave us the sweetest thank you gift ever… peaches and cherries, picked from Trista’s parents orchard (Alice’s Orchard) just this morning! Trista said “hope you guys like fruit…” Haha, that is half the reason why we moved to Hood River, for the fruit!

Stacey and Jeremy’s wedding on June 27th was such a blast to photograph for Bethany and I! We had the privilege of meeting Stacey and Jeremy at Joy and Jason’s wedding last summer in Hood River. Jason is Stacey’s brother… It’s always such an honor to shoot the weddings of multiple siblings because we get to see the families again and its so much fun! At Joy and Jason’s wedding, Stacey saw the reception slideshow and immediately asked if we were available for her date the next year. Luckily our calendar was open that day and it all worked out! It really put the pressure on us when Stacey mentioned that they didn’t even shop around to look at different photographers because they knew we were the ones.
Stacey and Jeremy and most of their family all live in New Jersey but they decided to have a destination wedding in the Finger Lakes region of New York! Wow, it was so gorgeous up there. They chose the most beautiful venue ever too… The Belhurst Castle on Lake Seneca!

We’re slacking on our new blog! So much to do and so little time… We’re getting serious now though. So here goes our first wedding post.
Bethany and I were so stoked when Melissa asked us to shoot her wedding! The Berghs (Melissa’s family) are super longtime family friends of ours, we go way back…We always love shooting weddings of close family and friends. When we’re running around all day and night shooting everything people always say “put down that camera! stop working and enjoy yourselves now!” but honestly we love shooting more than anything, so I don’t think putting down the camera to enjoy ourselves is going to happen anytime soon.
Their wedding was at the beautiful Coronado Cays Yacht Club on Coronado Island, San Diego. Melissa and Brian were obviously beyond excited (just look at the photos of them two!) to tie the knot, after like 5 years of dating! About time guys…

OK so we’ve got this new blog… and we’re going to try and keep up with it best as we can! The past week we’ve been in San Diego shooting a wonderful wedding for our great friends Melissa and Brian. Tuesday night we took a red eye flight to Buffalo, New York to shoot another wedding, Jeremy and Stacey! We got in really early Wednesday morning, picked up our rental car, and then headed off to Niagra Falls becauase neither of us had been there before. It was only about an hour from the airport, so why not!? The falls were really cool. HUGE HUGE HUGE. People watching was excellent too, as it is in all touristy places in America. Pics to come soon.
So today we did a “day after” session the “day before” with Jeremy and Stacey that was really fun. Their wedding is tomorrow at the Belhurst Castle in Geneva, NY. It’s gorgeous here! Very green, lots of beautiful country homes/mansions on the lakeside, in the trees, with grassy backyards the size of a football field or two!

Well, after an incredibly busy summer of 2007, and then 6 months of traveling the world November-May… it’s back to the real world for Bethany and I! Luckily, we love our job, so it’s not all that bad.
We’ve been back in America for just over a month, and have already photographed 4 weddings in 3 different states, and have been working nonstop to get a bunch of new things rolling.
First, our new website! Our previous website was in need of some mega help and updating. So, announcing the brand new www.blaineandbethany.com! A big thanks to the awesome and incredibly helpful guys at BIGFolio!
Second, looks like you’ve found our new BLOG! Just what the world needs… another blog! We hope to keep it interesting though with consistent updates of new photos, travels, and just random life stuff, so bookmark it (or add it to your RSS feed), check back often, and leave us comments!
Third, Blaine and Bethany Photography now has a Facebook page! Why? Um, I’m not sure why… or exactly what the point is… but it seems kinda fun. Check it out and sign up to be a fan!
And lastly, we’ve leased a new office in beautiful downtown Hood River, Oregon! The purpose of our office is to serve as a nice and comfortable place to meet with our clients to show our books and albums. It’s also been great for Bethany and I to spread out our computer and hard drive collection on a huge custom desk . We’ve been much more productive with our time being able to work at a real desk in a real office!
We bought the desk, shelfs, coffee table, and other misc furnishings at IKEA and found the 3 piece leather sofa set at City Liquidators in Portland.
I wasn’t going to post any photos yet because we still have some finishing touches to do, like find a cool rug for the meeting area, and plaster the walls with huge photo prints… but, I couldn’t resist… so below are photos of our new office in it’s “not-quite-finished” state!

Nice! You guys are tearing it up. The new spot looks killer. I have to say I haven’t explored Hood River much other than the few times that I’ve stopped through on various treks from Boise to Portland. Now I’ll have to check you guys out…that couch looks comfortable.
Do you mind me asking who you use for your album production? They look clean.

Dude, NICE! I love it! Your office is awesome! Awesome location and view, too! I wish I was getting married so I could meet with you guys in your cool office and let you tell me about how awesome you are. I am so stoked for you two!!!
Do you think you’ll be in Texas anytime this year? I’m in Austin now. Super fun city! Lots of fun stuff to photograph!

Chris- Thanks man, you should stop by in Hood River for longer, there is tons to explore. The couch is comfy but a little short for anyone over 5’10″ so if you come through, we’ll try and get you in a bed.
Our albums are made by http://www.kambara.com/ in Portland. Very expensive, but the quality is unsurpassed.
David- Hey! Doesn’t look like we’ll be in Texas this summer at all… bummer. You should come out and visit us though!
Ryan- You guys should come up to windsurf again! We’d love to see you and I need some windsurfers and kiters to sign model releases.
